ADVOCACY - WHAT DO WE DO?

  • We are a capacity building resource for individuals and organisations
  • We create a network of partner organisations
  • We create a network of independent voluntary advocates
  • Identify where advocacy is needed
  • Support advocates in their role
  • Offer an induction and orientation programme
  • Raise awareness of the need for advocacy
  • Seek to influence service providers to adopt a person centred approach
  • We currently provide a limited advocacy service

  • We are not a befriending service
  • We are not a paid advocacy service
  • We do not address general issues in Health of social Work services
  • Campaigning

WHO NEEDS ADVOCACY?

  • Older people without any family, relatives or friends
  • Older people who can speak for themselves but whose views are being ignored, overruled or not listened to
  • Older people who have family, relatives or friends who want something for the individual that is not what the older person feels the wish or need.
  • Older people with significant disabilities or communication difficulties
  • Older people who need help to solve a short-term issue or problem
  • Older people who have difficulty in making relationships and who have few apparent needs
